Mantua -   The Italians call this ancient city, just south of Lake Garda, Mantova. It's known to the English-speaking as Mantua.

Again it was the architecture and the patina that we found fascinating. Sometimes just flowers draping from balconies were visual feasts.

After lunch at a cafe table in the main piazza, we opened our guide book to find that we were sitting in shadows of buildings dating from the 12th and 14th century. The Rotunda di San Lorenzo, below, is Mantua's oldest religious building, It dates from the 11th century.
